Haines, Alaska.

May, 2008.

Haines Alaska has got to be one of the most spectacular places on earth. The town is strange...devided into a working mans section with bars and general stores and the other side of town, Fort Seward is for the guides, hippies, travelers and outdoor fans. The town is very isolated even though it has a road leading in. To get to the rest of Alaska, you must drive through Yukon Canada. Once in Alaska, your still a million miles from nowhere. I suppose thats why places like this are still unspoiled. that and when the cruise ships tried to come a few years ago, locals marched the docks with protest signs. Neighboring Skagway welcomes visitors and gets almost 1 million people each year between May and Sep. The town has only 900 residents! Haines is being careful not to let that happen. Thank God! Haines gets helicopter skiers in the winter and its supposed to be one of the worlds best places for it.
